Exposition: Esperanza; a girl who is unhappy with the role she is being threatened with. Chicago, the late 1900's.
Conflict: The main problem is that Esperanza is unhappy, that Mango Street is a horrible place, that women are locked into roles that they do not desire.
Event 1: Esperanza decides that she doesn't belong on Mango Street.
Event 2: Esperanza befriends Sally.
Event 3: Sally is forced/convinced/decides to kiss a group of boys, Esperanza tries to save her, but Sally tells her to go away.
Climax: When Sally leaves Esperanza to be sexually assaulted and humiliated.
Event 1: Sally gets married. I'm not saying this is fixing the problem, but it's after the climax.
Event 2: Esperanza goes back to her old friends and talks with Alicia
Resolution: Esperanza writes to escape and accept her neighborhood.
