Inherit: To receive property or traits from someone when they die. Jax was just another lord's son living off of his inheritance.
Syllables: Any part of a word that is naturally separated when spoken. The hissing syllables cut clearly through the night.
Universe: All of space and everything inside it. The universe is a big place to say the least.
Barrette: A type of accessory for the hair. The pompous girl's hair was adorned with innumerable hairpins, barrettes, and a variety of other cosmetic utilities.
Crooked: Bent, winding, twisted, skewed. His eyes flashed as his mouth twisted into that crooked smile.
Automatically: Happening or done without deliberate thought or effort. As the hand swung towards his face he automatically brought up a hand to shield his eyes
Scrambling" To hastily move or climb using your hands more than usual, to attempt to get something done before someone else does. The crack of gunfire sent us scrambling for cover.
Annual: Once per year. Every holiday is an annual event.
Sassy: Showing rudeness or lack of respect. Needless to say, insulting the entire room at a parent teacher conference and then running off to pull the fire alarm can be counted as a bit more than "sassy".
